Congratulations to our very own Crystal Chin for being the recipient of the first ever Kevin J. Leonard Award.
Kevin was an Associate Professor at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), University of Toronto and a Research Scientist with the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, University Health Network. Established to pay tribute to Kevin’s tireless advocacy on behalf of patients, the Kevin J. Leonard Award will be awarded annually to an outstanding IHPME graduate, masters or PhD, student whose work will engage and empower patients through the use of technology to become partners in their own healthcare.
Awarded by the IHPME Awards Committee, including representation from the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, Master of Health Informatics candidate Crystal is joined during the May 27th Award Presentation by, from left to right, Centre Lead Dr. Joseph Cafazzo, IHPME Director Dr. Steini Brown, Kevin’s gastroenterologist, Dr. Stephen Wolman and Kevin’s wife, Sandra Dalziel.
Crystal’s passion, excitement, leadership and commitment to healthcare inside and outside of the classroom are some of the similarities she shares with Kevin making her the obvious choice for this Award. We are delighted to have her as the inaugural recipient of the Kevin J. Leonard Award. We look forward to what she will bring to healthcare in the years to come.
Individual contributors built on the lead gifts from IHPME and the Centre, and we are grateful to everyone for making this Award possible.
