bant – A Diabetes App for the ePatient

Personal Health Information Technology

An edgy diabetes self-management app for the ePatient on-the-go

Conventional means of collecting and reviewing blood glucose (BG) measurements, via a paper logbook, is a burden to the diabetic.

bant collects BG levels as they are measured, richly displays the data in context, and supports trend detection. Measurements can be transferred to personal health records in the cloud and shared with care providers. Each time the user takes a BG measurement, the user collects points which can be used to redeem iTunes music and apps.

With this user-friendly approach to mobile diabetes self-management, diabetics can improve glycemic control.

  • Pilot study shows bant led to a 50% increase in frequency of daily blood glucose measurements
  • Availability of bant in 12 languages expands the app to different countries around the world

What’s Next?

bant is undergoing a 3-month pilot at the Hospital for Sick Children with twnety 12 to 15 year olds with type I diabetes. The results of the pilot will further inform the impact of bant.
